About the Role
We are looking for a Test Automation Engineer who would rather write code than click through test cases. You will spend your time designing, building, and improving automated tests across enterprise applications, working hands-on with a modern Java-based stack and contributing to the frameworks the whole team relies on. There is real scope to shape how testing is done and to push coverage, reliability, and speed.The stack includes Java, Selenium, Cucumber, JUnit, Rest Assured, Jira, CI/CD, RemoteWebDriver, and mobile automation, all within an Agile delivery environment.
What You Will Be Doing
- Design, build, maintain, and run automated test suites across enterprise applications.
- Engineer BDD test automation in Java using Selenium, Cucumber, and JUnit.
- Build and extend automated API tests with Rest Assured.
- Strengthen and refactor the test automation frameworks and shared best practices.
- Use RemoteWebDriver for parallel and cross-browser execution.
- Identify and act on opportunities to lift automation coverage, reliability, and efficiency.
- Collaborate with developers, testers, analysts, and delivery teams in an Agile environment.
- Support defect investigation, test execution, reporting, and quality outcomes.
- Minimum 2 years in test automation, with strong hands-on coding.
- Solid experience with Java, Selenium, and Cucumber.
- Experience with BDD frameworks, ideally using JUnit.
- Automated API testing experience, preferably with Rest Assured.
- A real understanding of how to design and maintain test automation frameworks to industry best practice.
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with fluent English.
- Exposure to modern automation tools such as Playwright or Cypress.
- Basic mobile testing experience, ideally with Appium.
- Basic database testing experience, including queries and data validation.
- Banking or financial services experience.
- Experience with Jira, CI/CD, RemoteWebDriver, or mobile automation.
- You genuinely enjoy automating things and take pride in clean, reliable, maintainable test code.
- You are proactive and curious, comfortable working independently, and always looking for a smarter tool or a better way to test.
- You have already built a strong automation base and want your next step to be a more technical one, on a serious enterprise programme.
- You must be able to pass a credit check.
- You must hold New Zealand Citizenship, Permanent Residency, or a valid New Zealand Work Visa.
