This is a hands-on engineering role with no people management. Your remit is simple: stabilise, simplify, and modernise a complex integration landscape so the platform can scale safely and move faster.
This role is based in Auckland Central, and is hybrid with 3 days work expected in office.
What You’ll Do
- Own and drive down technical debt across the integration platform
- Refactor and modernise integrations built with TypeScript, Python / Node.js on AWS
- Migrate legacy and iPaaS integrations to a modern AWS-native architecture
- Improve reliability, performance, security, and observability
- Strengthen standards, patterns, testing, and CI/CD to prevent future debt
- Partner with senior engineers and architects on platform direction
- AWS : Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions, SQS/SNS, EventBridge
- Languages: TypeScript, Python, Node.js
- Architecture: REST APIs, microservices, event-driven systems
- IaC: AWS CDK, CloudFormation, Terraform
- Containers: Docker, ECS/EKS
- Testing & CI/CD: pytest/Jest, TDD/BDD, automated pipelines
- Senior platform or integration engineer
- Strong experience untangling and reducing technical debt in complex systems
- Deep AWS and integration design experience
- Pragmatic, delivery-focused, and comfortable working in legacy codebases
- Influences through technical leadership, not hierarchy
