The IT Job Market in Wellington

Posted in IT Jobs , IT News on February 24, 2015

Things have been humming along in the capital city with the IT job market in Wellington being relatively steady in recent months.

Development skills are still in high demand, especially .Net, Java and Mobile developers and more so in the permanent space as contractors capitalise on the current skill shortage.

We have noticed an increase in NZ private sector organisations welcoming offshore applicants for the first time in years to counteract our critical shortage.

Employers are also placing more importance on retention strategies in order to hold on to sort after skills and IP.

Contract roles are on the increase across Testing, Development and Business Analysis.

On the permanent side, in addition to ongoing demand for Developers we have noticed very recent need in both the Business Intelligence and User Experience area after a relatively quiet period.

Demand for Automated Test Analysts is also climbing.

With the ‘high season’ for IT kicking off in the latter part of January 2015 we should see heightened activity more on par with Auckland and Christchurch.
